Welcome to our new home at Blogspot!
Readers may wonder why the move from website to blog. The simplest answer is that it seemed best to condense the information our readers cared about most into a leaner, tighter platform.
From the start edisongrassroots.com has been an experiment in web design. As such I've analyzed data and made adjustments.
The pages found here in the blog are the ones that consistently received the highest number of views at the website. It didn't make sense to continue devoting time and energy to any sections that didn't 'click' (pardon the pun). What you'll find in this new blog format is just our most popular sections.
In this new format you'll find links to our sections at the top of the blog, just below the header. Most of the links we had assembled at the website are featured here on the right-hand side under "Links." The ones I had assembled for shopping and local events didn't garner much interest. I have saved their contents from the website, though; and I may yet create pages for them here. Perhaps just a list of the links. We'll see.
Finally, this new blog format is also more easily navigable by smartphones and other mobile devices (at least Droids and iPhones). When a mobile user accesses the blog they have the option to view in a mobile-friendly format. That was another important factor in the decision to move to Blogspot.
I should note that the archives of news articles I had compiled for Township Administration, Crime, Police, Fire Dept., and School Board were quite popular with readers. But they became too time-consuming too maintain.
The height of edisongrassroots.com's readership occured a couple years ago when I wrote short blurbs of my own for the news strories appearing about Edison. That did add a homey touch. But it turned out to be too much work to maintain. Plus why not just go directly to the stories we linked?
Ultimately, what makes edisongrassroots.com unique is its collection of news sources and news feeds into one convenient location. The news feeds are embedded into the footer. And links to the feeds' XML versions may be found on our "Edison News Feeds" page. The "Edison News Links" page provides the links to sources. You'll also find a short list of popular news links at the top of the righthand navigation column.
It's nice to have a place to check the latest news for Edison from all the various news outlets. That will always be the main draw here. The other features are nice to have, but they're basically adornments.
